Jasper needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

Jasper is a 6 year old Belgian Turvuren Shepherd Mix with a lot of love to give. Weighing 60 lbs, he is a very handsome boy with a thick, gorgeous coat of orange, fawn, black and brown. He is very eager to please and knows some basic commands. He does very well in the house, no chewing or destructive behavior whatsoever and no jumping on furniture or beds. He also knows he does not get a pat on the head until he sits down. Very food driven, he knows to be very delicate when taking treats if you use a simple “easy” and never begs for food. He also knows he must sit and wait to be fed, although sometimes he gets frustrated and will bark just to remind you he is waiting on you. He is not food aggressive at all and does not care if you take anything away from him.
Being 6 years old, he was not thrilled with the idea of a crate but works just fine in a closed off area. Never once has he tried to jump over or even get near any gates. When you leave, he cries for a minute then goes to sleep. His favorite words are “want to go for a walk?!” and he’s sitting by the door ready to be hooked up and on his way. Being outside walking and exploring are his favorite things to do and he’s great on a leash, even waiting until you say it’s ok to cross the street. He knows that his person always enters and exits first and he follows, so usually you can feel the speed of his wagging tail on your leg as you walk out the door.
He is true to his heritage and is fiercely loyal and watchful. Being a shepherd he is in tune with his prey drive and likes to chase cats so would do best in a home without them. He is also very much attuned to his nose and will often sniff to his heart’s content when he is out for a walk, even using his nose to uncover a dropped treat outside. He loves being with his people no matter if it is watching tv, going to the store or riding in the car (which he loves!). In the evening, he often goes from room to room to lay down wherever you are, and play with his toys or just lounge. He will let you know when he is ready for bed. If he is waiting for someone else to come to sleep too, he will lay down at the top of the stairs until they arrive.
He is heartworm free, neutered, and looking for a family to love. He has SO much love to give and very intelligent. He needs good daily exercise and mental stimulation so he would thrive with a fenced in yard and kids to play fetch with and a good walk. He would also benefit from the bonding and learning experience of an obedience class to reinforce his skills. He is good with kids over 8 (youngest exposure) and most dogs if properly introduced. No cats please. He is acting like a good watch dog and will bark when people come.
A retired couple with time for walks and a yard for him to play in when not going on walks would be perfect fit for our Jasper.
He needs someone who can be with him more, socialize him more, and teach him to do the things he needs to learn because he has SO much potential and love to give. He needs an outlet for his energy and intelligence: people coming in and out of the house, a big yard, and some older kids to play with.
Although I wouldn't put it past him to protect our house or us, I know for sure he's not a truly aggressive dog. I can do just about anything to him, he's great at the vet, etc. He's just a little aloof with strangers but as long as they approach him correctly he's totally fine. When we had friends over for New Years he wanted to visit and get pats and play.
